The child or children of another family are looked after by
a person called nanny or childminder. There is a difference between the childminding and nannying. The difference is that a childminders looks after the child in the
childminder’s home but a nanny goes to home of child to look after or to take
care for it. Like other domestic
workers, modern nannies may live in or out. The situation depends on their circumstances. The traditional nanny was said to be the
servant of a large household who usually reported directly to the lady of the
house. On the contrary, a governess
makes concentration on teaching and training the children of the house.
Although today, many families have made the trend of using
modern version of a nanny child care. In
some cases, uniform may still be worn. But today, a respectful standard of
dress is more common. The perks or
incentives of the job include a flat and a car for the nanny. Since some nannies are much trained, but
there is no restriction on the use of the word, therefore education,
experiences, and training varies in large amount.
Tasks
There are some performing tasks of
nanny, they are:
A nanny provides the care to the child during those
hours which are agreed upon by the nanny with employing family.
A nanny supports the physical, social, creative,
emotional, and intellectual development of the children of the family.
She protects the children of the family from any harm
and ensures that they are in safe environment.
A
nanny maintains the appetite and nutrition of the children of the family
by providing then the appetizing and nutritionally-balanced meals and
snacks.
She
communicates with the parents in good and maintained manner and informs
them about the development and concerns in behavior about their children.
A
nanny also does the housekeeping work of the house which includes the
maintenance, cleanliness, and neatness of the house which affects the
children of the family.
Demographic
Most
commonly, the woman at age group of 20s to 60s take up employment as
nannies. Some nannies are younger. Normally, the younger nannies work as a nursemaid or au pairs
rather than the nannies in the traditional use of the term.
Some
male persons also apply for the position of the nanny. For the male nanny the nanny term is
sometimes used. This term is typically
used in US and the
UK.
Associations
For representation of nannies and nanny agencies, there are
a number of national as well as international professional associations. In
1985, the International Nanny Association (INA) was founded. INA is a non-profit organization that is
liable for providing an educational association for nannies along with
employment, placement, and professional support. In 1993, an agency known as
the Alliance of Professional Nanny Agencies (APNA) was founded. It is also a non-profit organization that
which helps in the promotion of the professionalism in the nanny placement
industry.
